It feels like a slow couple of days, lots of little jobs have been completed including the winch plate which is now cut, drilled and painted. I've spent a huge amount of time looking at what additional spares to buy - I'm off to a Unimog dealer tomorrow to get some work done on the steering and discuss the spares. I'm wondering whether to replace the winch cable with either new steel (very heavy, very robust and "cheap") or new synthetic (very light, susceptible to damage from rocks, heat, UV and expensive). The lightness of the synthetic is interesting - dragging 100ft of 1/2" steel cable isn't fun, plus if it breaks the synthetic just falls to the floor whereas the steel can do nasty things. However new steel just wouldn't break (would it?.....). Will we even need the winch?
